Shanghai Cruise Ship “Aida Magic City” — Fully Cantilevered Glass Staircase
Located in Shanghai, this project features the “Aida Magic City,” a large, domestically built luxury cruise ship. In the spacious atrium, this fully cantilevered glass staircase extends naturally. The ship’s designers boldly adopted this design—combining full cantilever construction with glass—to infuse the luxurious maritime space with a sense of visual openness.
The staircase’s main structure is constructed from high-strength steel, with a sturdy framework supporting the entire structure. The treads are made of transparent tempered laminated glass with a frosted, anti-slip finish, precisely embedded into custom-made steel tread grooves. Flanked by side-mounted glass railings, the tread groove edging and handrail surfaces feature a titanium-plated finish, presenting a brilliant, smooth golden texture that shines particularly brightly under the ship’s interior lighting, creating an overall atmosphere of modern and refined luxury.
As cruise ships sail at sea for extended periods, the complex dynamic environment places extremely high demands on structural safety. The internal steel structure meets the ship’s stringent standards for staircase strength; simultaneously, the tempered laminated glass, with its outstanding impact resistance, fulfills the need for a design that is both safe and luxurious. While meeting maritime safety standards, the entire staircase achieves a light and airy aesthetic.
