Located in Shanghai, this project is the office building of a pharmaceutical company that emphasizes innovation and vitality. The overall space features a modern, high-tech, and airy style. Within the multi-story atrium, this steel-frame spiral staircase unfolds naturally, taking the form of a continuous spiral that lends the entire space a sense of fluidity.
Supported by a steel framework, the staircase spirals upward through the atrium,
creating a light and airy cantilevered effect. Warm-toned LED strip lights are concealed beneath the
light-colored wooden treads; light and shadow progress layer by layer along the curves, enhancing
the three-dimensionality of the steps. Paired with transparent glass railings and wooden handrails,
the design adds warmth and a welcoming feel to the bright, modern office space.
The key to this project’s craftsmanship lies in the precise integration of the wood
veneer and the steel structure. Through meticulous preliminary modeling and factory fabrication, the
team ensured that every curved wooden step fit seamlessly with the steel framework. During on-site
installation, the curvature of each level of glass railing was rigorously positioned and calibrated
to guarantee vertical alignment of the overall circular curve, balancing visual fluidity with safety
and stability for daily use.
