Qingdao Ocean Innovation District — Steel Open-Riser Spiral Staircase
A steel open-riser spiral staircase for the show home of Qingdao International Ocean Innovation District — a mixed-use development combining research, incubation, commercial, and residential programmes. All-white, with warm ambient lighting: a staircase that feels light and unhurried, suited to the show home's quiet, considered atmosphere.


Steel structure with integrated steel panel balustrades on both sides, open-riser tread construction. Marble tread finish, smooth to the touch. Concealed ambient LED strips run beneath each tread, adding visual depth without drawing attention to themselves.

The curved surface runs continuously through the staircase. The core structure is dual box-section steel stringers; stringers and balustrades are fabricated as a single unit, reducing seam lines and keeping the spiral surface smooth and uninterrupted. A consistent white paint finish across all components removes visual breaks between parts — the staircase reads as one object.
The open-tread box construction connects to the stringers with full-penetration welds — solid, evenly loaded, stable over long-term use. The open structure keeps the space light and the sightlines clear. Warm LED strips beneath each tread spill softly outward, following the curve upward — ambient light that adds atmosphere without competing with the architecture.
