Jinlongyu Tower — Custom Steel Staircase with Gradient Glass Balustrade
Jinlongyu Tower in Pudong, Shanghai — a commercial landmark in the district, in use since 2018. The lobby staircase occupies the ground floor: warm timber wall panels, a white ground tone, and a staircase that brings a fluid, curving quality to an otherwise composed interior.

A custom steel staircase, with the staircase structure and the reception desk integrated into a single fabricated unit. A gradient glass balustrade runs along the outer edge. The staircase meets the reception desk without a seam; the curved surface transitions smoothly between the two.

The staircase body is white throughout, reading as part of the lobby's base tone. The soffit panel and handrail are finished in timber veneer, echoing the timber wall panels behind — the palette stays coherent from every angle.
The staircase box structure, balustrade base, and reception desk are fabricated as one. Fewer joints mean higher overall rigidity and a cleaner surface — the curved lines carry through without interruption. The gradient glass balustrade transitions from more opaque at the base to fully transparent at the top, softening the visual boundary and keeping the lobby's sense of depth intact.

The integration of staircase and reception desk is held together by precise node detailing and careful management of the curved surfaces where components meet. The result reads as one object, not three.
