The Huawei Project in Optics Valley was one of Tongrui Industrial’s early completed glass staircase projects. At that time, the domestic staircase industry was still dominated by wood and metal, and the use of glass as a structural material was still in its exploratory phase; Tongrui Industrial was among the first manufacturers in China to enter the glass staircase sector.

The Optics Valley Huawei project features a stainless steel framework paired with laminated glass railings and glass treads. To ensure the safe installation of glass on the staircase, the team engaged in repeated discussions focused on two key areas: first, how to guarantee the strength of the glass treads, and second, how to reliably connect the glass to the stainless steel framework.

Glass is a brittle material; unlike metal, it cannot be bent or stretched, and may shatter if subjected to excessive localized stress. During the design phase, the team carefully weighed the relationship between load-bearing capacity—determined by the number of glass layers and thickness—and the material’s own weight. They selected a configuration with the lowest possible self-weight while meeting load-bearing requirements, and ultimately finalized a safe and feasible solution through load testing.

The connection between the glass and the stainless steel framework was also meticulously refined—it had to be secure without allowing the metal components to exert excessive localized pressure on the glass. The selection of support points was particularly critical, as it directly determined whether the load would be distributed evenly across the glass. The team established strict specifications for the positioning accuracy and installation methods of each support point, and after repeated on-site measurements and calibrations, the installation was successfully completed.

Since then, Tongrui Industrial has continued to iterate on its technology and upgrade its processes. The company has now mastered mature design, fabrication, and installation techniques for curved all-glass staircases, holds multiple self-developed invention patents related to glass staircases, and operates a dedicated workshop for the deep processing of curved glass, possessing full-process capabilities ranging from hot bending and tempering to laminating. Both the precision of the curved surface and the structural load-bearing performance are subject to closed-loop control within the company’s own production lines, eliminating the need for external subcontracting.

From glass treads to curved all-glass staircases, Tongrui Industrial remains committed to the ongoing exploration of staircase craftsmanship.
